'Not a great one': Arraez, Phils get tough news with left ankle sprain
PHILADELPHIA — It sounds like Luis Arraez's sprained left ankle is as bad as it looked on Thursday night.
Arraez got an MRI exam on Friday morning. Asked about the report, Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly said on Friday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, “Yeah, kind of not a great one.”
Arraez’s availability for the Phillies’ final three regular-season games and the postseason is very much in doubt. He sprained the ankle in the sixth inning of Thursday night’s 5-1 loss to the Brewers, when he tried to avoid a tag following an errant throw to first base. Arraez writhed in pain on the ground before finally getting up and walking off the field with help from a Phillies athletic trailer.

The Phillies received some clarity on Luis Arraez after a scary-looking exit Thursday night.
Arraez suffered a left ankle sprain in the sixth inning and was forced to leave the game, but X-rays came back negative.
“[The Phillies] call it a left ankle sprain,” interim manager Don Mattingly said. “X-rays were negative. We’ll see more. We’ll know more tomorrow.”
“We’ll treat him tonight, see what happens, see how he walks in tomorrow,” Mattingly said.
Mattingly remained optimistic that the Phillies' biggest trade deadline acquisition could avoid a lengthy absence.
