East Coast eyes strengthening nor’easter already battering Mid-Atlantic shores
An early fall norâeaster is gathering strength along the central East Coast, pounding beaches in several states with heavy surf and threatening to bring coastal flooding, wind and rain to parts of the Northeast through the weekend.

The norâeaster, named for the direction its punishing winds come from, currently sits several hundred miles off the Mid-Atlantic coast and will begin to track north and strengthen over the next two days.
But exactly how close it lumbers along the coast remains uncertain, and even a small change in its track could make a big difference in how much punch the storm delivers when it arrives in the Northeast late Friday or early Saturday.
Nor'easter's flooding, strong winds a threat from NC to New England
A nor'easter will bring coastal flooding, high surf, wind and rain to parts of the East Coast through the weekend, with impacts from North Carolina and the Virginia Tidewater, to the Jersey Shore and New England.

The nor'easter hasn't yet gained strength. But the pressure difference between low pressure off the East Coast and high pressure over eastern Canada is driving gusty winds along the Eastern Seaboard.
Some gusts are topping 40 mph along the coast from southern New Jersey and Delaware to the Virginia Tidewater.
And those persistent winds are piling water from the ocean and bays along parts of the coast.
