Hundreds of flights canceled at O'Hare Airport as heavy rain arrives

Weather significantly disrupted air travel in Chicago early Saturday, with heavy rain leading to more than 300 flight cancellations at O'Hare International Airport and several additional rounds of showers in the forecast.
As of 2:32 p.m., 347 flights had been canceled at the airport, with delays averaging 68 minutes, according to the Chicago Department of Aviation's website. Midway Airport reported 71 flight cancellations and average delays of less than 15 minutes.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, O'Hare was also under a ground delay, a traffic management measure that holds departing flights on the ground to manage congestion at the arriving airport. The ground delay was set to remain in effect through 10:59 p.m.

ABC7 meteorologists issued an AccuWeather Alert for potential flooding on Saturday. The south suburbs and northwest Indiana are also under a Level 1 risk for severe weather.
Heavy rain hit parts of the Chicago area in the morning hours, but ABC7 AccuWeather meteorologists said the risk for flooding had reduced significantly by 9:30 a.m.
A Flood Watch is in effect for McHenry, Boone, Lake (IL), DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Kendall, Cook, Will, Lake (IN), and Porter counties, along with Wisconsin's Racine, Kenosha, and Walworth counties, until 7 a.m. Sunday.
