William Shatner Talks Going Metal for Riot Fest & His Unusual Interpretation of Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’
William Shatner's list of lifetime accomplishments is very long. Yes, there is his acting career. He is also an entertaining guest speaker, as he proved again on Aug. 9 at the annual Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, engaging enthralled fans for over an hour. Lately, he's been working on his 13th album, continuing a discography that stretches back to his 1968 debut, The Transformed Man.
This weekend, he adds another item to his résumé, with performances at Riot Fest, Chicago's annual music festival with an emphasis on punk rock. The legendary entertainer will preview six songs from his forthcoming album, What the F Is Heavy Metal?
At 95, William Shatner is starting a heavy metal band
Shatner, 95, will debut his new heavy metal band, The *uckers, at Chicago's Riot Fest on Sunday, Sept. 20. The band takes the Rebel Stage at Douglass Park between 5:25-6 p.m. local time.
"I decided you're such big fans of mine, that I'm going to debut my heavy metal record at Riot Fest and I hope you're there and I hope I'm there," Shatner said with a smile in a video promoting his performance, shared by Riot Fest.
Shatner, best known for his role as Captain Kirk in the "Star Trek" franchise, isn't new to the music industry. Over the years, Shatner has released spoken-word, rock and blues albums, beginning with his debut album, "The Transformed Man" in 1968. He released his most recent spoken-word album, "Love & Other Mysteries," in collaboration with country music star Brad Paisley, in August.

The fabled Captain Kirk is entering a new phase(r) of his illustrious career as front man of a new heavy metal band. The name is *uckers. This outfit premieres Sunday at “Riot Fest” at Chicago’s Douglass Park.
The onetime foe of Khan Noonien Singh has put it all together. His band closes the three-day festival, which includes Iggy Pop, Pixies, Tool, Morrissey, Nas, Pierce the Veil, Alanis Morissette and Elvis Costello & The Imposters.
