ICE officer arrested on assault charges in Minneapolis after shooting
WASHINGTON (TNND) — A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer was arrested on assault charges in Minneapolis after he allegedly shot a Venezuelan man and gave a false account of the incident.
According to jail records, Christian Castro, 52, was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on an outstanding warrant Wednesday afternoon, The Hill reported. Castro is being held on a $200,000 bail.
Castro was charged with four counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of falsely reporting a crime. He is scheduled to appear in a downtown Minneapolis courtroom on Thursday afternoon and has not yet entered a plea.

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) – A former ICE agent accused of making false statements connected to the shooting of a Venezuelan in Minneapolis in January during Operation Metro Surge is back in jail.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says Christian Castro was arrested at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the area of 2nd Avenue S. and 3rd Street in Minneapolis. Authorities say he was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on his active warrant.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison commented Wednesday on Minnesota’s extradition fight with Texas over ICE agent Christian Castro, who faces assault charges in Hennepin County. Ellison accused Texas Gov. Greg Abbott of "harboring a fugitive" and said Minnesota would never let Castro "escape accountability," as officials awaited a decision on the extradition dispute.
