Indiana teen sentenced for rape of 7-year-old on school bus
JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. (WKRC) — An Indiana teenager who was found guilty of raping a nonverbal 7-year-old child on a school bus in 2025 was sentenced to over 50 years in prison.
In April, 16-year-old Landon Doty had been tried as an adult in a two-day jury trial and was found guilty on 12 counts, including rape and sexual battery, per WLKY. On Monday, he was sentenced to 54 years total, with 50-and-a-half of those years to be served in the Indiana Department of Corrections. The remaining three-and-a-half years will be suspended to probation.
Doty, who was 15 at the time, was initially charged in the case in June 2025 after school bus surveillance video captured several instances of him assaulting the child over several weeks, reported WXIN. Officials first became aware of the assaults after a bus monitor reported seeing Doty push the child from his lap. The monitor then alerted the bus driver, and the students were separated. The incident was reported to Jennings County Schools.

16-year-old gets 54 years in prison for assault of nonverbal child on bus
NORTH VERNON, Ind. (WISH) – A 16-year-old was sentenced Monday to 54 years in prison for the 2025 sexual assault of a nonverbal 7-year-old on a school bus.
Landon Doty, 16, of North Vernon, must also serve 3.5 years of probation following his release.
In April, a jury convicted Doty of 12 charges, including rape, child molesting, and sexual battery.
The assault happened April 17, 2025. Security cameras on the bus recorded the incident, which stopped only after a bus aide confronted Doty. The bus then pulled over, and students were separated.
Court documents show a juvenile probation officer pushed for the case to move to adult court. The officer described Doty's behavior as some of the worst he had seen, stating that adult court was necessary for public safety.
