Las Vegas storms trigger ground stop, delays at Harry Reid International Airport
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A series of severe afternoon thunderstorms triggered a ground stop and widespread flight delays at Harry Reid International Airport on Thursday.
Federal aviation officials issued a ground stop for the airport from 1:13 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. as heavy storms rolled through the Las Vegas valley.
Travelers can expect average arrival and departure delays of 39 minutes, though departure delays are reportedly increasing.
Airport officials advise all passengers to check their individual flight status with their airline before heading to the airport.

Harry Reid International Airport recorded 0.02 inches, its first measurable precipitation since June 23, the National Weather Service said.
For the second day in a row, parts of the Las Vegas Valley got wet from monsoon storms.
The Henderson area, including Anthem, Green Valley and Southern Highlands, saw the most rainfall Thursday, said Ashley Nickerson, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Las Vegas.
“The southeast side got more than the central valley,” Nickerson said.
Henderson Executive Airport only received 0.02 inches but some other nearby areas got .10 or more, according to gauges from the Regional Flood Control District. Boulder City received 0.25 inches.

Thunderstorms prompt ground stop at Harry Reid Airport, FAA says
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Flights at Harry Reid International Airport were halted after the airport issued a ground stop because of thunderstorms.
The Federal Aviation Administration initially put a ground delay in place, with an average delay of 39 minutes, before updating it to a ground stop.
Travelers are urged to check the status of their flights on the Harry Reid Airport website.
