When and why did you start training? I was in Las Vegas for Jiu Jitsu and I started doing MMA because of covid, I was helping a lot of MMA fighters with grappling like Claudia Gadelha and Valentina Shevchenko and since all tournaments in Jiu Jitsu were cancelled, I decided to take on MMA but I couldn’t get any amateur fights and I remember Pavel, who’s Valentina’s coach saying “you should go straight into pro, you train with Valentina” and I did and here we are.

Gigi Canuto was in Thailand, a couple of weeks into what was scheduled to be a two-month trip to train with her close friend Casey O’Neill and the crew at Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA after spending several weeks earlier this year cooped up in the Ultimate Fighter house in Las Vegas.
“Mick said, ‘Do you wanna fight next week?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll get on the first flight out’ and that was that,” said Canuto. “It’s been an absolute crazy week, and I’m trying to be present, take it all in. It’s gonna be my first fight week forever. It’s been a lot of blessings, and I’m still kinda processing it all, taking it one step at a time.”

UFC Card This Weekend Adds Surprise Fight Featuring UFC Newcomers
This weekend’s UFC card has added a short-notice fight featuring one of the contestants from the most recent season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Following a return to Abu Dhabi and the promotion’s debut card in Serbia, the UFC heads back home this weekend for another UFC Fight Night event at the Meta APEX facility in Las Vegas, NV.
UFC Vegas 120 features an intriguing lightweight headliner between Mateusz Gamrot and Quillan Salkilld, who is looking to continue an unbeaten start to his UFC career after knocking out Beneil Dariush in May.
Saturday’s UFC card admittedly isn’t the most star-studded affair and only featured 11 bouts as of the start of fight week, Léo Guimaraes reports that the event has received a late-notice addition in the form of a matchup between Brazilian strawweights Carol Foro and GiGi Canuto.
