Seattle’s Speier disciplined
Seattle Mariners pitcher Gabe Speier has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine as a result of his intentional throwing at Gleyber Torres of the Detroit Tigers in the top of the eighth inning of Wednesdayâs game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. Michael Hill, Senior Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.
In addition, Mariners manager Dan Wilson has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for Speierâs intentional throwing. Wilson will serve his suspension today, when the Mariners and the Tigers will conclude their series in Seattle.
The suspension of Speier had been scheduled to begin today. However, Speier has elected to file an appeal. Thus, his discipline will be held in abeyance until that process is complete.
Dillon Dingler goes deep again, but Tigers bats finally cool off
SEATTLE – It’s apparently never boring when the Detroit Tigers are in town. It got interesting again late Wednesday, Aug. 5, at T-Mobile Park when Gleyber Torres got hit, and the benches cleared, and a pitcher and manager got ejected.
The bit of spice didn’t last, though, nor did the Tigers' late comeback effort as their offense finally stalled, and so their four-game winning streak came to an end with a 4-2 loss.
Torres wasn’t the only one hit by a pitch. Three other Tigers were, too – Max Clark, Riley Greene, Zack McKinstry. Torres was hit in the eighth. He had a few words with catcher Cal Raleigh, who had been plunked in the inning before.
