Al Roker absent from 'Today' show as Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin remain out

Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin and Al Roker were all absent from the "Today" show broadcast on Tuesday, July 21, days after the show faced an intruder incident.

Willie Geist greeted viewers at the top of NBC’s morning program with Sheinelle Jones, who co-hosts “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.”

“Thank you for joining us on this Tuesday morning,” Geist, 51, said. “We are in for Savannah and Craig.”

Later in the episode, meteorologist Dylan Dreyer filled in for Roker.

Guthrie, 54, previously announced that she’d be missing from “Today” for a “few weeks,” while she filmed the first season of the “Wordle,” a game show inspired by The New York Times game, in which players guess a five-letter word. Guthrie predicted the new series would likely air on NBC “in the New Year.” Her absence comes amid the ongoing search for her mother Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared from her Arizona home on Feb. 1.

Craig Melvin to be replaced on Today following unsettling intruder incident

A well-known face will keep Craig Melvin's seat warm over the next week or so as he takes time off from Today.

The NBC star – who co-hosts both the main Today with Savannah Guthrie, and the Third Hour alongside Al Roker and Dylan Dreyer – will be on vacation from July 20, with U.S. Men's National Soccer Team player Taylor Twellman filling in for him.

The news was announced on the Third Hour on July 15, just a day before an intruder was detained after breaking into the Today studios.

Police arrest man who shouted racial slur at ‘TODAY’ co-anchor Craig Melvin

New York City police arrested a man Thursday morning after he allegedly entered an unauthorized area near the “TODAY” show studio and shouted a racial slur at co-anchor Craig Melvin, according to multiple people familiar with the matter and a statement from NBC News.

In a statement, the “TODAY” show confirmed there was a “security incident” after the suspect “entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A,” the show’s street-level headquarters at Rockefeller Plaza. The person approached Melvin, who then alerted security, according to the statement.

“The individual was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident. There was no altercation, and no one was injured. ‘TODAY’ is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter,” the statement said.
