Here's what to expect when Netflix reports earnings after the bell
Netflix reported second-quarter revenue and earnings that were in line with analyst estimates on Thursday as Wall Street is keeping a close eye on the company's advertising and engagement metrics.Â
The streaming giant called engagement with its content "healthy," saying live events were a top draw for members, who watched more than 97 billion hours of total content in the first half of this year. The engagement metric has come into focus after reports that viewership for Netflix series drops following the first season.
On Thursday, however, the company said it would cut back on the frequency of its "What We Watched" reports, which provide a picture of engagement. Following the release of Thursday's report â which gives information on viewership for the first half of 2026 â Netflix will shift to publishing the report annually in the first quarter beginning in 2027.Â

Netflix beats on earnings per share, misses on revenue in second quarter
Netflix (NFLX) stock fell over 7% in extended trading after the company's third quarter outlook fell short of expectations and engagement trends didn't inspire confidence on the Street.
The streaming giant reported earnings that beat estimates and revenue that was roughly in line with forecasts in Q2. Revenue grew 13.4% year over year to $12.56 billion, slightly underperforming Bloomberg consensus estimates of $12.58 billion and reflecting a moderation from 16.2% revenue growth in the first quarter of this year.
Earnings per share came in at $0.80, slightly beating analyst expectations of $0.79 and coming in above the $0.73 reported a year ago.
"The entertainment industry remains dynamic and competitive," Netflix management stated. "We aim to stay ahead by executing against our three areas of focus: delivering more entertainment value, leveraging technology to improve every aspect of our service, and improving monetization."
