White Sox Trade Jacob Gonzalez, Brandon Eisert To Pirates

The White Sox are sending infielder Jacob Gonzalez and reliever Brandon Eisert to the Pirates for lefty Jaden Woods and the No. 34 pick in the draft, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. Pittsburgh will part with minor league arm and its Competitive Balance Round pick to land big-league reinforcements. Both teams have announced the trade.

There was a report in late June that the Pirates were open to moving their CBR-A selection as well as players in their minor league system. They’ve now done both in one deal. Gonzalez debuted this season with the White Sox. He provided near league-average production while playing mostly first base, but was bumped off the roster when Munetaka Murakami returned Friday. Eisert has been a regular in Chicago’s bullpen since last season. He’s scuffled to a 5.93 ERA in 2026.

Pirates trade Draft pick to White Sox in deal for infield, bullpen help

The Pirates have indeed traded their Competitive Balance-A Round Pick for help, and it will address needs at shortstop with Konnor Griffin’s injury and in the bullpen.

Late Friday, the Pirates flipped the 34th overall pick in the upcoming MLB Draft to the White Sox for infielder Jacob Gonzalez and left-handed pitcher Brandon Eisert.

Along with the Draft pick, the Pirates are sending left-handed pitcher Jaden Woods to the White Sox.

“We believe in this team and discussed multiple ways to use the comp pick to strengthen it,” general manager Ben Cherington said.

“Jacob Gonzalez can complement Nick Gonzales and Jared Triolo on the left side of the infield in Konnor Griffin’s absence. He’s also a versatile left-handed hitter who has taken significant steps this season and who we believe in long-term.

Pirates' Jacob Gonzalez: Traded to Pirates

The White Sox traded Gonzalez and Brandon Eisert to the Pirates on Friday in exchange for minor-league reliever Jaden Woods and the 34th pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

After sending him down to Triple-A earlier in the day, the White Sox will now send Gonzalez out to Pittsburgh to help bolster the Pirates' infield depth. The 24-year-old has slashed .244/.323/.360 across 97 plate appearances in the majors since making his MLB debut May 31, but he boasts a 1.040 OPS at the Triple-A level. With Konnor Griffin (finger) expected to miss multiple months and Spencer Horwitz (hamstring) also on the IL, Gonzalez could get an opportunity to contribute right away for the big club.
