Independence Illumination Drone Show lights up Philly skies on Thursday night

The heat is forcing many changes to July 4th events including for Wawa Welcome America. NBC10’s Kelsey Kushner reports.

A drone show filled the skies over Independence Mall on Thursday night.

The Independence Illumination Drone Show ran for about 13 minutes and recreated "breathtaking moments from the nation's 250 years" by using hundreds of drones, event organizers say.

The event happened at 10 p.m. on July 2 at Independence Mall between Race and Chestnut streets.

Karen Perez and her family came into the city from Pottstown and brought extra water bottles with them to beat the heat.

"It's brutal brutal brutal. We're melting out here but we're making the best of it," she said.
