CHICAGO (WLS) — Overnight storms left drivers stranded in south suburban floods Saturday morning and knocked out power for thousands, forcing the cancellation of some Fourth of July events as more rain moved through Saturday evening.

A flash flood warning was issued for several Chicago-area counties on Saturday evening, with the National Weather Service warning of significant flooding caused by earlier storms that delivered up to six inches of rain in parts of the region.
Earlier, the NWS issued an urgent flash flood warning for portions of Cook, DuPage and Kane counties, warning residents to avoid travel as significant flash flooding brought on by multiple inches of rain triggered "dangerous and life-threatening" situations.
Some residents in Kane County received an "Imminent Threat Alert" message from the NWS, urging them not to travel unless fleeing a flooded area or under an evacuation order.

Major flooding on Bishop Ford in Chicago prompts rescue, ISP says
CHICAGO – Significant flooding on the Bishop Ford Freeway on Chicago’s South Side early Saturday morning was causing traffic delays and prompted police to help at least one driver from the water.
The Illinois State Police is urging drivers to avoid the area of I-94 northbound at Steel Bridge near Doty Avenue in Chicago.
One trooper had to enter the water to help a driver out of the flooded water, ISP said.
