Small aircraft crashes into Beijing’s tallest skyscraper
A small aircraft appeared to have struck the tallest building in Chinaâs capital on Friday afternoon, in a shocking incident in one of the worldâs most fortified cities.
Dramatic footage from Beijing posted on social media showed debris falling from the 109-story CITIC Tower, also known as China Zun, as well as a tail section of the plane and a broken window of a taxicab on the ground.
A CNN journalist witnessed people evacuated from the skyscraper gathering on the streets near the entrance, along with firetrucks, police cars and an ambulance.
CNN has not yet received an official response from the authorities. The person who answered the phone at the relevant district branch of the Beijing Public Security Bureau told CNN they were ânot familiar with the situation.â They then referred CNN to another number but the call went unanswered.

Beijing: A small plane crashed into Beijing’s tallest skyscraper on Friday, puncturing glass panels of the building and sending debris into the street below.
Authorities are yet to comment on the crash, which occurred at the 108-storey CITIC Tower in Beijing’s central business district, around 6pm local time (8pm AEST).
It is not yet known whether there were any casualties, how many people were injured, or how many people were on board the aircraft.
Known as the CITIC Tower or China Zun, the skyscraper is the headquarters of Citic Group, one of China’s biggest state-owned financial conglomerates.

BEIJING, June 26 (Reuters) – An aircraft about the size of a car crashed into Beijing's tallest building, CITIC Tower, on Friday, two bystanders told Reuters, as police closed off roads around the skyscraper and stopped passersby from filming the scene.
The building, known as CITIC Tower or China Zun, is a 108-storey skyscraper in Beijing's central business district. It is the headquarters of the state-owned conglomerate CITIC Group.
There was a heavy police presence at the site, with some approach roads closed to cars. Police prevented some people from taking pictures and asked others to delete those they had taken while ushering people away from the building.
