White House to appeal judge's order to remove Trump's name from Kennedy Center
The Trump administration will appeal a judge's order requiring that President Trump's name be removed from the Kennedy Center. The notice of appeal was filed Thursday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Earlier Thursday, Mr. Trump's handpicked Kennedy Center board voted to seek a stay of U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper's May 29 ruling that said Mr. Trump's name was illegally added to the Kennedy Center, a person familiar with the move who requested anonymity to discuss a private meeting told The Associated Press. The formal stay will be filed on Friday, the person said.
Cooper ruled last month that only Congress could institute a change to the Kennedy Center's name and ordered references to Mr. Trump be removed by Friday. He also blocked the administration from closing the cultural and arts venue for major renovations that had been planned to start in July and last for two years.

The Trump administration on Thursday evening appealed a judgeâs order that overturned the Kennedy Centerâs decision to rename the venue for President Donald Trump and its plans to close down the storied arts center during a yearslong renovation.
Earlier Thursday, Trumpâs handpicked Kennedy Center board of trustees convened for a board meeting to discuss plans to appeal the ruling.
In the afternoon meeting, the board voted to file an appeal contesting US District Judge Casey Cooperâs decision, according to a source familiar with the matter, which said that the board violated the law when it added Trumpâs name to the historic performing arts venue. Cooper also said the center may still move ahead with renovations to the decades-old building and could later decide to close the center after its board more fully considered the impact on its statutory requirement to maintain some programming at all times.
