A different kind of Sora is back in the news. Square Enix just teased the long-awaited next entry in the Kingdom Hearts series, though there’s not much in the way of info just yet. It’s called Kingdom Hearts IV and it’s launching on the Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, and PC, but there’s no release date in sight. It’s the first all-new entry in the series since KH III in 2019. Four years after its reveal, Kingdom Hearts 4 remains one of gaming's biggest mysteries. The long-awaited sequel was nowhere to be found during Summer Game Fest last week, extending a years-long drought of meaningful updates. But now that Square Enix has finally put a title and release window on Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Sora’s absence might make a lot more sense.
The simplest explanation isn't that KH4 is in trouble. Instead, Square Enix may be focusing its attention on FF7 Revelation before turning the spotlight back to KH4. Both games fall under Square Enix's Creative Business Unit 1, the division responsible for many of the company's largest RPGs.

Kingdom Hearts 4 New Trailer Revealed at Nintendo Direct
To everyone’s surprise, a new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer was revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct event.
For years, there’s been one game that’s on everybody’s mind, and that’s Kingdom Hearts 4. The developers have been extremely quiet about it since the announcement, and players have been eager to see anything new for the title, and that day has finally arrived, thanks to Nintendo.
After seeing that previous Kingdom Hearts games were coming to Switch 2, players thought that’s all we would be getting from the series through the Kingdom Hearts collection; however, they were so wrong. The most anticipated title in the series finally received a brand-new trailer, which showed cinematics, a glimpse of some characters, and gameplay showcasing the characters’ various skills and moves.
