Teenage competitor arrested after three horses stabbed at Las Vegas barrel racing event, police say
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A teenage girl is in custody after three horses were injured with a sharp object at a barrel racing competition at South Point Casino.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said officers received a report at approximately 2:07 a.m. Saturday that a horse had been injured at a barn. Patrol officers arrived and learned that three horses had been “intentionally injured with a sharp object,” according to a news release.
An LVMPD Animal Cruelty Section investigation ensued and detectives were able to identify a teenage girl as a possible suspect. Police said the teen had access to the barn.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — An incident involving the mistreatment of horses was reported in the early morning hours at the 2026 Official NBHA Las Vegas Super Show, prompting an immediate response from event organizers and law enforcement.
The National Barrel Horse Association said an event competitor mistreated some horses.
In a statement, the NBHA said, “The situation was addressed immediately in coordination with the National Barrel Horse Association, the South Point Hotel & Casino, Metro Police, and all appropriate parties. The individual involved has been removed and placed in the care of authorities, and there is no ongoing threat of any kind.”
The NBHA said “all appropriate steps have been taken to ensure the well-being of all horses” and described it as an isolated incident.

The Las Vegas Police Department (LVMPD) has announced an arrest made in connection to this incident.
According to police, officers were notified around 2:07 a.m. on Saturday about an injured horse at the 9700 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard.
Upon their arrival, they found that three horses "had been intentionally injured with a sharp object."
LVMPD notified the Animal Cruelty Section, and detectives determined that a teenage girl was involved as a possible suspect.
Metro said she had access to the barn area, and "may have used a knife to inflict multiple injuries to the horses."
Channel 13 learned that while the injuries the horses sustained are not life-threatening, they will likely prevent them from competing in the event.
