Sarasota teen dies in head-on crash on State Road 70 in DeSoto County
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A 17-year-old from Sarasota was killed Friday morning in a crash with a dump truck in DeSoto County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Investigators say the teen was driving in an SUV, traveling east on State Road 70, approaching NW Florida Avenue at about 8:45 a.m.
The SUV moved into the westbound lane to pass a truck, directly into the path of a dump truck traveling in the opposite direction, troopers said.
Another dump truck traveling behind the truck involved in the collision tried to evade the crash, but went off the roadway and overturned.
A fourth vehicle, another SUV, hit the teen’s SUV, troopers said.
