Dodgers Hint at Possible Call-Up for Tallest Pitcher in Team History

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Paul Gervase has a locker at Dodger Stadium in the lead-up to their game against the Atlanta Braves.

Grevase, the tallest pitcher in Dodgers history, has gotten some looks in the major leagues, but most of his work comes in the minor leagues.

Measuring at six feet, 10 inches, Gervase is a mountain of a man, and the righty certainly uses his stocky build to throw high velocity pitches.

However, with the Dodgers having so much depth, Grevase is down in Triple-A, but he could soon join the roster.

Grevase has a locker down in the clubhouse, signaling a possible roster move. There are plenty of possible outcomes for the Dodgers.

Dodgers' Paul Gervase: Recalled from OKC

After posting a 3.65 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 12.1 innings in Triple-A, Gervase will get the call to return to Los Angeles as the roster replacement for Tyler Glasnow (back). Gervase surrendered four earned runs in 8.1 big-league innings between Tampa Bay and Los Angeles last season, and he'll likely be limited to middle-relief duties while with the Dodgers.

Pitcher Paul Gervase May Be Activated for Dodgers this Weekend

UPDATE: Since this post, the team has confirmed that Gervase is indeed taking the place of Tyler Glasnow on the active roster. Glasnow goes to the IL.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A lot of pitching news as we prep for the series with the Braves this Friday afternoon. First, we hear that Blake Snell will be back on the mound for the Dodgers on Saturday, and then, we notice that Paul Gervase has a locker in the Dodgers clubhouse. He may be activated soon, and the question is, whose roster spot will he be taking?

The smart money is on an IL stint for Tyler Glasnow, who didn’t expect one on Wednesday after the back spasms forced him to abort his outing after just one inning. But things change, and perhaps it turns out that a couple of turns off from the rotation will be necessary to calm down the injury. Manager Dave Roberts described the situation as a “holding pattern” with Glasnow, so there’s a possibility that they might hold off on the roster move and just keep Gervase in a “break-glass-if-necessary” setting for now.
