DC advocates discuss gun violence trauma, solutions during National Youth Violence Prevention Week
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — As part of National Youth Violence Prevention Week, a D.C. mentoring group and local leaders are working to raise awareness about violence prevention while helping communities heal from ongoing trauma.
The effort comes during a difficult week in the District, after a 5-year-old child was shot in a triple shooting and a teenage boy was also shot in a separate double shooting, both in Northwest on Tuesday.
Community members gathered Wednesday night in Northeast for a meeting focused on addressing the impact of gun violence and identifying resources to better support young people and families.
