Colorado Rockies game no. 23 thread: Justin Wrobleski vs. Jose Quintana

Riding a two-game winning streak, the Rockies (9-13) will take on the Dodgers (15-6) today to see if they can win their third series of the season.

After falling 7-1 to L.A. on Friday, the Rockies have won the last two showdowns 4-3 and 9-6.

LHP Jose Quintana (0-1, 5.63 ERA) will be on the mound for Colorado, hoping to rebound from his last start. Quintana has struggled in his two starts this season. In his first outing vs. Miami, he gave up two runs on four hits with four walks in 4.1 innings in a no-decision in a 4-3 loss. Following that start, Quintana spent time on the 15-day IL with a strained hamstring. When he returned on April 15, his command issues remained as he walked the first three batters he faced and gave up two runs in the first inning. He only lasted 3.2 innings, giving up three runs (one homer) on three runs with four walks and one strikeout in Houston’s 3-1 victory.

Dodgers' Edwin Diaz out till 'second half' for elbow surgery

Los Angeles Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday to remove loose bodies in his right elbow, the team announced. The expectation is that the reliever could sit out around three months, a source told ESPN's Alden Gonzalez on Monday.

Los Angeles put Diaz, 32, on the 15-day injured list before the team's series finale with the Colorado Rockies on Monday, adding in a statement that he'd be back "during the second half of the season." In a corresponding move, the Dodgers recalled left-hander Jake Eder, 27, from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

A right-handed veteran in his first season with the club, Diaz has four saves and 10 strikeouts, with a 10.50 ERA. On Sunday, in a loss to the Rockies at Coors Field, the veteran gave up three runs without recording an out.

Edwin Díaz To Undergo Surgery For Loose Bodies In Elbow

The Dodgers announced that right-hander Edwin Díaz has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow loose bodies. A subsequent announcement said that he will have surgery to address the issue and is expected to return in the second half of the season. Reportedly, he’ll miss about three months, which will put him in line for a return sometime around the All-Star break. Left-hander Jake Eder has been recalled to take Díaz’s spot on the active roster.

The status of Díaz has been a bit of a mystery for a while now, as he has struggled for the Dodgers while pitching with diminished velocity. His fastball has averaged 95.7 miles per hour so far this year, a notable drop from his 97.2 mph average last year. His results were fine through five outings but his sixth, on April 10th, was rough. He entered a 7-4 game in the ninth and surrendered three runs, allowing the Rangers to tie it up.
