Tigers ace Tarik Skubal a big fan of Fenway Park
At 6-feet-3-inches and 240 pounds, Tarik Skubal doesnât look like someone who would find comfort in Fenway Park. But the Tigers ace and back-to-back Cy Young Award winner loves every cramped nook of baseballâs oldest ballpark.
Skubal vividly recalls his first visit to Fenway with the Tigers in 2021. The lefthander jumped on the first bus from the team hotel and was captivated upon his arrival.
âIt was awesome,â said Skubal. âI changed as quickly as I could to sit outside and just looked at it â tried to fit in the seats you canât fit in. ⦠The tunnel [from the visitorâs clubhouse to the field], when you walk down that tunnel, it feels old, and you get a nostalgic feeling. You werenât even a part of [that history], but you feel like youâre a part of it. A ton of the gameâs greats have played on this field. Itâs always fun to be able to share that history.â

Game 22 Preview: Tigers look to take series lead over Red Sox on Sunday
The Detroit Tigers evened up their four-game series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Saturday with a 4-1 win behind an ace performance by Tarik Skubal and his 10 strikeouts.
The victory brought AJ Hinch’s squad back above the .500 mark and within a half game of the American Central Division lead, behind the 12-10 Cleveland Guardians; they are also tied with the Minnesota Twins at 11-10. Not that the standings mean too much early in the season, but it always feels good to be trending toward the top.
Speaking of which, the Motor City Kitties come into Sunday tied for fourth-best in batting average against (.222), fifth in ERA (3.34) and tied for sixth when it comes to WHIP (1.22).
