Katy missing mail: Postal inspector investigating mail theft in Katy neighborhood
KATY, Texas (KTRK) — People living in a Katy neighborhood tell ABC13 they're fed up because their mailboxes keep getting broken into, and they said their mail is going missing.
"The mailbox on our side has been broken in at least four or five times in the last few months; we've gone everywhere," Paul Hernandez said.
Hernandez said he and his neighbors have filed police reports and postal inspector reports, but have reached their limits because nothing has changed.
"Something has to be done ultimately. I mean, not today, not tomorrow, I mean now," Hernandez said.

Postal Inspector Investigates Recurring Mail Theft in Katy Neighborhood
The United States Postal Inspection Service launched an investigation into serial mail theft in a Katy, Texas, neighborhood on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, following reports of repeated mailbox breaches. Residents reported that multiple units have been compromised at least five times within the last few months.
Local homeowners expressed mounting frustration to ABC13, noting that traditional police reports and federal complaints have yet to stop the recurring thefts. Victims reported that essential items, including life-saving medical supplies, are being stolen directly from the community's cluster boxes.
"I'm getting frustrated over it because my medication from the VA comes through the mail," said William Darby, a local veteran. Darby noted that he relies on the service for asthma and blood pressure prescriptions and expressed concern that the thieves may be using a key to gain access.
