First Alert Day: Severe Storms Develop
Heading into the afternoon, a high risk of strong to severe weather is expected. You’ll notice warm and muggy air the next few days, this along with a stalled out frontal boundary, That’s why it’s the first of three First Alert Days this week.
The latest Storm Prediction Center outlook for today includes most of the area in an enhanced risk of severe storms, outlined in orange below. A slight risk encompasses the rest of the TV9 viewing area.
The time period for storm development will be in the 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. range on Tuesday, though storms could continue later into the evening and night. Initially, storms will quickly turn severe, with large hail, damaging wind, and a tornado risk. Some of the hail could be very large, in the range of 2 to 3 inches in diameter. Tornadoes would be most likely near or just south of a warm front, which will be stretched across the viewing area (its exact position will depend on tonight’s outcome).
