'American Idol' reveals Top 11 after shocking vote delay
A week after a vote-counting hiccup delayed the Top 12 reveal, the final tally was made official during the April 6 "judges' song contest" episode. The cliffhanger not only had viewers on the edge of their seats, but also the singers, who tried to make the most of their extra week in the competition.
Two "Idol" hopefuls were sent home at the top of the April 6 episode before one more singer was voted out in the Top 11 reveal at the end following a save from Lionel Richie, who won the competition with seven of his songs chosen.
"It definitely gives us anxiety, but it gives us more time to hang out as a family," Brooks Rosser tells USA TODAY after he got over the shock of the Top 12 postponement. Lucas Leon admits, "I'm still going to be a little bit quaking in my boots until next Monday [April 6]."

'American Idol' Top 11 & Judges' Song Contest Winner Revealed
The Live Shows continued with the 2026 Judges’ Song Contest on the Monday, April 6, episode of American Idol. After last week’s vote-counting snafu, the episode began with Ryan Seacrest revealing who is moving on to the Top 12 and which two artists were eliminated.
The contestants from the Top 14 who were eliminated were: Jake Thistle and Julián Kalel.
For this week’s ’90s-themed Judges’ Song Contest, judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie each selected a song from the 1990s for the Top 12 artists, who then got to pick which of the three tracks they would perform. The judge who had the most picks at the end of the night had the opportunity to save one of the bottom two artists from elimination, rounding out the Top 11.
