Saturday Afternoon Session Summary for the April 2026 General Conference
During the Saturday afternoon session of the April 2026 conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, eight new General Authority Seventies and a new Primary General Presidency were announced.
Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles conducted the session on April 4, 2026, in the Conference Center on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.
President D. Todd Christofferson of the First Presidency announced leadership changes during the sustaining of General Authorities, Area Seventies and General Officers of the Church.
Elders Craig C. Christensen, Eduardo Gavarret, Brook P. Hales, William K. Jackson, Erich W. Kopischke, Peter F. Meurs and S. Mark Palmer of the Seventy will be released and receive emeritus status on August 1, 2026. Elder Benjamin M. Z. Tai has been called to serve as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy, effective August 1, 2026.
New Primary general presidency sustained Saturday afternoon
A new Primary general presidency was sustained by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday, April 4.
Presented by President D. Todd Christofferson, second counselor in the First Presidency, the leaders joined eight new General Authority Seventies also sustained during the Church’s 196th Annual General Conference. The new Primary leaders will begin their service on Aug. 1.
President Rosemary K. Chibota has been called as Primary general president with Sister Nina M. Garfield, first counselor, and Sister Theresa A. Collins, second counselor.
Released were the three members of the outgoing Primary general presidency — President Susan H. Porter and her counselors, Sister Amy A. Wright and Sister Tracy Y. Browning. They will complete their service on Aug. 1.

Latter-day Saints sustain 8 new general authorities, 6 leaders given emeritus status
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sustained eight new General Authority Seventies during the Saturday afternoon session of the 196th Annual General Conference.
The sustaining of new authorities was conducted by President D. Todd Christofferson.
Members also sustained a new member of the Presidency of the Seventy — Elder Benjamin M. Z. Tai — effective Aug. 1. He will replace Elder S. Mark Palmer, who has served in the presidency since 2021.
In addition, seven General Authority Seventies (Elders Craig C. Christensen, William K. Jackson, Brook P. Hales, Eduardo Gavarret, Erich W. Kopischke, Peter F. Meurs, and S. Mark Palmer) will be released and receive emeritus status on Aug. 1, according to news release on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
