MIAMI — Even after right-hander Davis Martin, who is scheduled to close out the White Sox opening home series against the reigning American League champion Blue Jays, pleaded to the skies in Miami to hold off the rain on Thursday night, the Chicago sky was too far away to listen.
The White Sox home opener at Rate Field, which was slated for Thursday afternoon, was postponed until Friday due to a forecast of inclement weather. Fans will have to get one more night's sleep, with first pitch set for 1:10 p.m. CT.
The pitching matchups will remain as scheduled, with White Sox right-hander Sean Burke set to face Dylan Cease, who will go up against his former team, in Game 1. Anthony Kay is slated to pitch opposite Toronto left-hander Eric Lauer in the second game of the series. Toronto’s starter for Sunday has yet to be announced.
