2026 NBA Mock Draft: 30 first-round projections as March Madness rolls on
NBA scouts have been out in full force since the fall. This time of year, though, they're often joined by their superiors. That is to say that the real decision-makers, like the General Managers and Presidents of Basketball Operations, start making more scouting trips towards the end of the regular season, into conference tournaments and, of course, March Madness.
With that in mind, we have our latest 2026 mock draft, which takes into account both the evaluations from our recently updated CBS Sports Big Board as well as team needs and insight into their drafting history. In other words, this mock is based on what we expect those NBA teams would do come June 24, not necessarily what we would do in their shoes. I have not made any changes, player-wise, among the top five spots since our last update two weeks ago. The first move comes at No. 6, with Darius Acuff Jr., though again a lot of that is team fit.

The first weekend of an NCAA tournament replete with future NBA talent is in the books. With eyes set on the national championship game in a few weeks, how did top 2026 draft prospects fare in the early days of March Madness?
No. 1 pick candidates AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson saw their seasons — and likely, college careers — end in early losses. Top prospects, including Cameron Boozer, Darius Acuff Jr., Kingston Flemings and Keaton Wagler, led their schools to the second weekend. And while there were a few surprises, including Florida falling in the second round, a host of other projected first-rounders advanced, setting up a series of marquee prospect matchups this week.

NBA mock draft 8.0: Projecting the first round before the NCAA Sweet 16
After two rounds of the Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament, the Sweet 16 has many future first-round NBA draft picks still dancing during March Madness.
As always, prospects will use the momentum from March to capitalize on their draft stock to begin their professional careers. Others, however, might benefit from increased NIL packages in the NCAA and come back to school or enter the transfer portal.
Some highly-ranked players not included who could potentially return to college include Tounde Yessoufou (Baylor), Alijah Arenas (USC), Meleek Thomas (Arkansas), Ebuka Okorie (Stanford) and Flory Bidunga (Kansas). But if these players decide to declare and stay in the draft, they could potentially warrant first-round consideration as well.
