Taylor Dearden Says She's One of the 'Least Recognized' Stars of “The Pitt” for This Reason

Taylor Dearden revealed why she believes she’s one of the "least recognized" actors from The Pitt in a recent interview

"I get away with a lot more anonymity than everyone else because everyone looks the exact same outside of the show, but dolled up," she said

The actress, 33, revealed why she believes she’s one of the "least recognized" actors from The Pitt in an interview with Glamour.

"I think my hair throws people off a lot. They darken it for the show," Dearden told the outlet. As seen on red carpets and at events, she typically has honey-blonde hair. Her character, however, has light brown hair.

‘The Pitt’ Star Taylor Dearden on Mel’s Sexuality: ‘I Saw Mel as Someone Who Is Not Romantic’

In some ways it feels inevitable that viewers of The Pitt would fall in love Dr. Melissa “Mel” King, the sensitive, bespectacled emergency department resident played by Taylor Dearden.

Mel is kind, intelligent, and fiercely loyal—especially to her special needs twin sister Becca (Tal Anderson) and Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball), whom she sees as a mentor, ally, and friend. She is a welcome reprieve from the gorier, gloomier moments in the show—and there are a lot of them in season two. Who wouldn’t be charmed by her?

But Mel is also neurodivergent, as is Dearden. And not so long ago, when Dearden was growing up, she remembers how neurodivergent characters were hardly considered lovable. As the actor tells Glamour, most were written according to stereotypes and portrayed as cold, unfeeling, aggressive, or robotic. They were deployed mostly for comedic effect—that is, if they were represented at all.
