The Korea Football Association said, "The Korean national soccer team will have its 1,000th A match through a friendly match against Ivory Coast at Milton Keynes Stadium MK in England on the 28th." In particular, it adds meaning in that England is the place where the first A-match of the Korean national soccer team was held.
South Korea's first official A match was against Mexico in the round of 16 at the London Olympics, which took place on August 2, 1948. In the match, South Korea recorded its first historical win, beating Mexico 5-3 with Jung Kook-jin's two-goal performance. Mexico is also in Group A of the 2026 North-China World Cup.
