Shrinking's Jessica Williams On Why [Spoiler]'s Death Is A 'Real Learning Curve' For Gaby: 'She's In A Dark Place'
Losing a patient leads Gaby to a crisis of confidence in Wednesday's episode of "Shrinking."
During the final moments of last week's episode, we learned that Maya (Sherry Cola) had lost her battle with depression. When Episode 8 picks up, Gaby stands in the way, way back of Maya's funeral. Toxicology reports for her late patient tested positive for alcohol, Xanax, and OxyContin, and the worst part is: They may never know whether her death was an accident or not.
"In the beginning of the season, we mentioned that Gaby is trying to move forward and she's thinking about this idea of getting into trauma work," Jessica Williams tells TVLine. "This is sort of her experimenting with 'Jimmying' and getting involved a little bit in this patient's life and not really breaking through and then starting to break through."
‘Shrinking’ Season 3, Episode 9 Recap – Harrison Ford Steals the Show
Shrinking Season 3 seems to be falling into a standard rhythm for most of “Daddy Issues”, but a late Harrison Ford turn delivers one of the finest scenes the show has ever produced.
Even at its worst, Shrinking is still better than most dramedies… ever, really, which is pretty high praise. Season 3 has already threatened to fall into a bit of a holding pattern once or twice, and it does so again for most of Episode 9, which is titled “Daddy Issues” because it finally finds Jimmy’s dad, Randy, sticking around for a full episode. But its highlights have nothing to do with Jimmy or his dad, and instead find Harrison Ford and Jessica Williams, though especially the former, delivering what is arguably the best scene this show has ever produced. Now that’s high praise.
