Women's junior flyweight boxer Isis Sio in coma after knockout

Women's junior flyweight boxer Isis Sio has been placed in a medically induced coma after suffering serious injuries when she was knocked out in the first round Saturday night in San Bernardino, California.

Sio, 19, was facing Jocelyn Camarillo in the opening bout of ProBoxTV's card at the National Orange Show Event Center when knocked unconscious after a series of head shots. Sio received medical attention immediately after the fight ended and could be seen convulsing as she was stretchered out of the arena. She was sent to Loma Linda University Health medical center for further treatment.

"On behalf of CEO Garry Jonas and the entire ProBox family we are praying for a speedy recovery for Isis Sio," ProBoxTV posted on its social media account Sunday. "Ms. Sio is currently in a medically induced coma. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time."

Boxing often gives fans a big show, more so when it comes to knockouts. Anthony Joshua destroying Jake Paul a couple of months ago could be the more famous recent example of that.

It is normal to see stars suffering that fate, but when it comes to newcomers, it is hard to see them take punishment. On Saturday, Jocelyn Camarillo recorded a dominant win over 19-year-old Isis Sio.

With 48 seconds left in the first round, Camarillo landed a big left hand in Sio’s face. She landed three more hits before her opponent fell to the ground and the referee stopped the fight. Sio wasn’t in the best shape after that, and the aftermath turned more dramatic.

Isia Sio suffers KO against Jocelyn Camarillo, rushed to hospital

SAN BERNARDINO, California – Isia Sio, a women’s junior bantamweight opening Saturday’s ProBox TV card, was knocked out by a powerful flurry from Jocelyn Camarillo and taken from the National Orange Show grounds on a stretcher.

Camarillo, of California’s Coachella Valley, unleashed hurtful body blows to North Dakota’s Sio, then blasted a series of right and left hands to Sio’s head, dropping her, with the fight ending 1 minute, 18 seconds into the first round.

Sio, 19, stayed down in a neutral corner after the finish by Camarillo, 6-0 (4 KOs), and was seen convulsing as she was wheeled quickly from the ring.
