Police make arrest in 2011 cold case of realtor killed during open house
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (WKRC) — Investigators in Iowa believe they may have found the person responsible for the 2011 slaying of realtor Ashley Okland, per KCRG.
Okland was found dead from two gunshots in a model townhouse in West Des Moines on April 8, 2011, where she was holding an open house. On Tuesday, nearly 15 years later, authorities announced 53-year-old Kristin Ramsey had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the case.
"Today is a day my family has thought about very often over the last 14 years," Josh Okland, Ashley’s brother, said during a press conference announcing Ramsey's arrest.
"We had lost our hope in finding answers and having any justice of Ashley,” Ashley's sister, Brittany, said. "It was really difficult to accept that the case had gone cold."

An arrest has been made in the 15-year-old cold case of 27-year-old Iowa Realtor Ashley Okland.
Kristin Ramsey, 53, was charged with first-degree murder after a Dallas County grand jury issued a indictment, according to a news release from West Des Moines police. Ramsey was arrested on Tuesday, March 17 and is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2 million cash bond.
Police did not provide more information on the nature of the charge but planned a news conference for 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Okland, an employee of Iowa Realty Co., was showing a model townhouse in West Des Moines on April 8, 2011, when she was shot twice. An employee with developer Rottlund Homes heard a commotion inside the model townhouse at 558 Stone Creek Court and went to investigate, according to Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa. Inside, the worker discovered Okland on the floor and called 911.

Arrest made in cold case of Iowa real estate agent killed during an open house
An Iowa woman was arrested in connection with the death of a real estate agent whose killing nearly 15 years ago sent shock waves through the state and haunted realtors, authorities said Wednesday.
Kristin Ramsey was indicted by a grand jury on a charge of first-degree murder in the April 8, 2011, killing of Ashley Okland, West Des Moines Assistant Police Chief Jody Hayes told reporters.
“Ashley’s story has kept many of us awake at night, revisiting details over and over in our minds, searching for that missing piece that would tie everything together,” Hayes said.
Dallas County, Iowa, jail records show Ramsey, 53, was booked Tuesday and is being held in lieu of $2 million cash bail.
