The new WNBA collective bargaining agreement has arrived and, once ratified, will see player salaries skyrocket across the board. That includes Caitlin Clark, whose popularity was definitely a factor in the revenue growth that made the deal possible.
For perspective on how large an increase we’re talking about, consider that the new WNBA minimum salary of $270,000 is larger than last year’s $249,000 supermax for players. The league has also instituted a measure that will see some of its lowest-paid players see their incomes grow significantly if they see early success, like Clark.
The Indiana Fever star made $76,535 as a rookie in 2024 and $78,066 in 2025, figures dwarfed by her considerable endorsement income. Per Spotrac, she would have been due $85,973 for her third season in 2026 and still a year away from restricted free agency.
WNBA, WNBPA officially announce tentative deal on new CBA
The WNBA and WNBPA have completed and signed a term sheet for a new collective bargaining agreement, allowing both sides to officially announce Friday they have reached a tentative deal.
The terms were verbally agreed upon by both parties early Wednesday morning after eight days and more than 100 hours of bargaining in Midtown Manhattan in New York. The deal is pending ratification from the WNBA Board of Governors and the WNBPA player body, which could take another few weeks.
In a news release, the league called the deal "one of the most transformational labor agreements ever reached in major professional sports."

When the WNBA was in its infancy, the league’s mere existence was remarkable. No salary cap was in place during the first seven seasons, and salaries were as low as $15,000.
Players have incrementally demanded more and more since the league’s inaugural season in 1997, culminating in Wednesday’s historic windfall. For the first time, professional women’s basketball players in the U.S. can make more than $1 million, and the average salary will be nearly $600,000 after the players’ union and the league agreed to a new CBA.
