Former CHP officer Angelo Rodriguez and Iris Salmeron charged with murder in fiery Norwalk crash that killed 4 people
NORWALK, Calif. (KABC) — Two people, including a now-former California Highway Patrol officer, are facing murder charges in connection with a fiery chain-reaction crash that killed four people last July on the 605 Freeway in Norwalk.
"We today are bringing the most serious charges we can bring against the two perpetrators of the crimes that led to the deaths of these four individuals," said Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman during a press conference on Monday. "Those are the crimes of murder."
The four victims were trapped inside a burning car on the 605 Freeway after a suspected drunk driver plowed into their disabled vehicle at more than 100 mph. All four people inside were killed, and the suspected drunk driver, 27-year-old Iris Salmeron of Bellflower, was arrested and charged with four counts of murder.

A former California Highway Patrol officer was charged with murder Monday for his role in a chain-reaction crash that left four people dead on the 605 Freeway near Norwalk last summer, authorities said.
Angelo Rodriguez, 24, allegedly slammed his patrol car into a Nissan Versa near the Rosecrans Avenue exit of the southbound 605 Freeway around 1 a.m. on July 20, disabling the car, authorities have previously said. Rodriguez was driving at least 130 mph and was not responding to a call for service, according to Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Nathan Hochman.
Instead of rendering aid to the people he hit or turning on lights and sirens to warn other motorists of the accident scene, Rodriguez sat in his damaged cruiser for nearly three minutes, Hochman said Monday.
