Jase Butler shoots Colorado State into Mountain West quarterfinals

LAS VEGAS — What a moment to have a moment of greatness.

Under the bright lights of the conference tournament in Las Vegas, Jase Butler had one of the best nights of his young college basketball career to lead the Colorado State men's basketball team into the Mountain West quarterfinals.

Butler hit a career-high six 3-pointers and scored 20 points as the No. 7 Rams beat No. 10 Fresno State 67-63 at Thomas & Mack Center.

Butler hit a 3-pointer with 2:21 to go to put the Rams up 64-61. After a couple CSU stops, he then drove to the hoop for a layup to make it 66-61 and virtually seal the victory.

Men’s basketball to play Colorado State to open up Mountain West Tournament

The Fresno State men’s basketball team secured the No. 10 seed in the Mountain West Tournament. The Bulldogs will face the No. 7 seed Colorado State Rams on March 11.

The ‘Dogs and Rams met twice earlier in the regular season, splitting the two games, with the ’Dogs winning at home and losing on the road.

In their first meeting at the Save Mart Center, senior Jake Heidbreder scored 23 points while going perfect from the line on 16 free throws. DeShawn Gory also recorded a double-double to help Fresno State secure a 79-69 win.

Gory led the ’Dogs in scoring in their second meeting with 23 points, while Heidbreder followed with 14. Fresno State fell short by four points, losing 74-70 despite leading for the majority of the game.
