Kristaps Porziņģis struggled to get back out on the court after initially making his Warriors debut on Feb. 19.
And it wasn't until Golden State coach Steve Kerr walked back comments that he described as a "stupid mistake" where the situation became even more mysterious.
After his debut against the Boston Celtics, Porziņģis was sidelined for six games with an unspecified illness that Kerr, in a radio interview with 95.7 The Game on Feb. 27, stated, based on a conversation he had with Atlanta Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh, was not POTS, or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.

Kristaps Porzingis' 'mysterious' illness and the Warriors' uncertain future
KRISTAPS PORZINGIS' DEBUT with the Golden State Warriors on Feb. 19 went about as one would expect from a player who'd been sidelined more than a month. He was a little rusty, still wrapping his head around the team's motion offense and his new surroundings.
But there were second-half flashes of his tantalizing potential. Porzingis poured in two post-up jumpers over a mismatch, drilled a 30-footer and volleyball spiked a Nikola Vucevic floater. The Warriors won the 9 minutes, 48 seconds that Porzingis played by 15 points.
Against the Boston Celtics — with whom he'd won a title in 2024 — Porzingis showed the floor-stretching, rim-protecting combination that earned him the "Unicorn" nickname as a rookie with the New York Knicks. This is what enticed the Warriors to trade for him midseason despite lingering questions about his ability to manage a mysterious condition that arose after he contracted a virus more than a year ago.

Kristaps Porzingis has been cleared to play for the Warriors in Tuesday’s matchup against the Bulls, ESPN’s Anthony Slater writes. This will be his third appearance for Golden State since being acquired in the Jonathan Kuminga trade.
After playing 17 minutes on February 19, in which he scored 12 points on five-of-nine shooting, the Latvian big man missed the next six games before returning on Saturday, scoring nine points with five assists and five rebounds in the loss to the Thunder.
Porzingis has been struggling with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) since last season. He spoke recently about getting cleared to play and his belief that he’ll be more available for the rest of the season than he has been to this point, though he understands fans’ skepticism given his inconsistent playing status.
