FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — All lanes of Interstate 495's Outer Loop have been shut down in Annandale, Virginia (Fairfax County) due to police activity.
The closure stretches between Gallows Road and Little River Turnpike (Route 236), according to traffic alerts.
Officials initially reported multiple lanes were blocked. An update later confirmed that all lanes in the area are now closed.

Drivers are being detoured at Exit 80A onto Route 29/Route 50. People should expect major delays in the area and are urged to seek alternate routes.

All southbound lanes on the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway (I-495) are closed due to police activity on Sunday, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Officials say expect delays and drivers should follow directions from the poice. Traffic backups are up to four miles, according to VDOT.
It is not made immediately clear why the lanes were shut down. Officials are investigating.

Police activity has shut down all southbound lanes on Interstate 495 between Gallows Road and Little River Turnpike.
Officials say emergency crews responded to reports of a vehicle collision and stabbing on the interstate.
Traffic is currently being detoured at Exit 50a onto Route 29/Route 50.
