Suns coach Jordan Ott addresses why Cole Anthony hasn't joined team

Phoenix Suns coach Jordan Ott addressed Cole Anthony’s status, as he has yet to join the team.

“It's still the same,’” Ott said Feb. 26 before Phoenix faced the Los Angeles Lakers at Mortgage Matchup Center. “There hasn't been much change, but we have had injuries and that's kind of where it's at.”

The Suns (33-26) acquired Anthony from the Milwaukee Bucks in a three-team deal before the Feb. 5 trade deadline. They sent Nick Richards to the Chicago Bulls and Nigel Hayes-Davis to the Bucks.

“That's why there hasn't been much change, but that's why it's not completely out,” Ott added. “We'll continue to just stay in touch with his people and move this thing forward.”

Buyout Market Rumors: Anthony, Middleton, Ball, D-Lo, Boucher

Veteran guard Cole Anthony has remained in limbo since being acquired by the Suns at this month’s trade deadline, having continued to hold a spot on Phoenix’s 15-man roster despite being away from the team. Reporting prior to the All-Star break indicated Anthony would likely be waived, but that still hasn’t happened. According to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic, head coach Jordan Ott suggested on Thursday that the delay may be related to depth concerns in the Suns’ backcourt.

“It’s still the same,” Ott said of Anthony’s situation. “There hasn’t been much change, but we have had injuries and that’s kind of where it’s at. That’s why there hasn’t been much change, but that’s why it’s not completely out. We’ll continue to just stay in touch with his people and move this thing forward.”

Suns Reportedly Waive Trade Deadline Player

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns are finally waiving Cole Anthony, according to multiple reports.

"The Phoenix Suns have waived guard Cole Anthony, sources tell ESPN. Anthony averaged 6.7 points in 35 games for the Bucks before being moved at the NBA trade deadline," said ESPN's Shams Charania on X.

Anthony, like Charania mentioned, was acquired by Phoenix at the trade deadline from the Milwaukee Bucks alongside Amir Coffey.

While Coffey has played, Anthony hasn't. It was widely reported Anthony would be released, first by Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro, though it's been weeks since his arrival before finally being cut loose today.

"It's still the same. There hasn't been much change, but we have had injuries and that's kind of where it's at," Suns coach Jordan Ott just told reporters last night. "That's why there hasn't been much change, but that's why it's not completely out. We'll continue to just stay in touch with his people and move this thing forward."
