The New York Knicks traded Guerschon Yabusele at the deadline in one of the most predictable moves around the NBA. They shipped him out for Dalen Terry, and then, in turn, landed Jose Alvarado in a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. Since then, Alvarado has been the perfect fit, and Yabusele, though putting up decent stats, hasn’t been helping the Chicago Bulls win.
It was a big-win trade for the Knicks. And the Bulls didn’t get much out of the deal. Chicago is going nowhere, fast, Yabusele wasn’t playing for the Knicks, and the Pelicans… Well, they’re the Pelicans. Day by day, Alvarado game by Alvarado game, the Knicks are winning the trade.

The New York Knicks are entering the final third of the regular season as a different team than they were over their rocky start to the year.
They elected to hold onto their tandem of score-first All-Stars in Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, consolidating their defense with smaller moves to shore up the depth of the regularly-deployed rotation. Where few dependable deterrents once lined the Knicks' bench, newly-minted options in Jose Alvarado and Jeremy Sochan now wait in New York's wings.
But in order to free up the cap space and assets to trade for Alvarado and snag Sochan up from the buyout market, the Knicks needed to give up some resources of their own.

Nuggets got lucky to lose out on coveted offseason free agent
Guerschon Yabusele had a choice, and it altered the course of the season for the Denver Nuggets. He chose the Knicks, and the Nuggets went out and got Jonas Valanciunas to back up Nikola Jokic instead. The Nuggets got lucky; they dodged a dud.
That little nugget was courtesy of Jake Fischer, the People's Insider, in the latest edition of the Stein Line. Yabusele signed a two-year, $11.7 million contract with the Knicks last offseason, but ultimately it never panned out. Yabusele only saw 8.9 minutes per game, scoring just 2.7 points and pulling down only 2.1 rebounds in 41 games, all off the bench.
