Coastal flood watch affecting Middlesex and Monmouth counties Sunday and Monday
On Friday at 3:50 p.m. the National Weather Service released a coastal flood watch valid from Sunday 9 p.m. until Monday 5 a.m. for Middlesex and Monmouth counties.
“One to two feet of inundation above ground level possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways,” explains the weather service. “Additional coastal flooding may linger into Monday’s high tide cycles.”
“At this level, widespread roadway flooding occurs in coastal and bayside communities and along inland tidal waterways. Many roads become impassable. Some damage to vulnerable structures may begin to occur,” explains the weather service. “A Coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for flooding are expected to develop. Be prepared to begin taking appropriate action to protect life and property. Follow the recommendations of local emergency management officials. Be sure to check the latest forecast from time to time in case a warning is issued or any new information becomes available.”
NY weather: Coastal flood watch for Suffolk County for Sunday and Monday
On Friday at 4:27 p.m. a coastal flood watch was issued by the National Weather Service valid from Sunday 10 p.m. until Monday 6 a.m. for Suffolk County.
"1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level possible in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline," explains the weather service. "This water level forecast will be highly dependent on timing of windshift from east northeast to north gales with respect to the time of high tide, and will be refined over the next 24 hours. Ice cover in the bays and harbors could exacerbate flooding and cause damage to northeast to east facing shoreline structures."
