U.S. women's hockey star Hilary Knight sets all-time U.S. goal-scoring record

BREAKING: Team USA defeats rival Canada 2-1 to win the gold medal in women's hockey

MILAN — U.S. hockey star Hilary Knight became the all-time leading scorer in U.S. women's hockey history at the Olympics in the most dramatic way possible when she scored her 15th career goal late in the gold medal game of the Milan Cortina Olympics.

Knight, 36, deflected a shot to tie Canada, 1-1, with two minutes left in regulation.

Knight broke the goals record held by former American players Natalie Darwitz and Katie King, whom she called “legendary players” on Feb. 7 when she tied their mark with a goal against Finland. She did not realize she had matched history at the time, she said. Knight reached 14 goals in 15 career Olympic games, while King did it in 16 games. This was Knight's 27th career Olympic appearance, extending her U.S. record.

The captain of the U.S. women's hockey team delivered perhaps one of the biggest goals of her Olympic career in the winding minutes of the third period of Thursday's gold medal game against Canada when she tipped in a shot from Lalia Edwards to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime.

It was also a historic goal for the five-time Olympian, as she got her record-breaking 15th career goal and 33rd career point at the Winter Olympics. She now holds the all-time U.S. women's hockey records for goals and points recorded at the Winter Games.

Team USA would go on to win the gold thanks to an overtime goal from Megan Keller.

WASHINGTON — Team USA captain Hilary Knight has made history at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Knight now stands alone with the most career goals scored in U.S. women’s hockey Olympic history after scoring a goal to tie the gold medal game against Canada in the last two minutes of the third, pushing them into overtime.

The milestone moment came a week after she had tied the record previously held by Natalie Darwitz and Katie King.

But that's not all the history Knight has been making at the Milan Cortina Games.
