VANCOUVER, BC – The 'Caps are back. Following nearly four weeks in Spain for preseason, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are set to return to action as they kickoff their 2026 campaign this week. The opening match of the year will take place this Wednesday, February 18 in Concacaf Champions Cup action, as the Blue and White face Costa Rican side C.S. Cartaginés in the First Leg of Round One. Kickoff from Estadio Fello Meza in Cartago, Costa Rica is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT. The 'Caps will host the Second Leg next Wednesday, February 25 at BC Place, with tickets still available at whitecapsfc.com/tickets.

‘This tournament’s a big moment’: Whitecaps kick off CONCACAF Champions Cup

The club stunned many in 2025, first downing a series of big-name opponents to earn a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup final, where it fell to Liga MX giant Cruz Azul.

Vancouver then followed up with its best Major League Soccer season on record and capped the year with an appearance in the MLS Cup final. The team fell again, this time to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.

Now those losses are serving as motivation as a new season begins.

“Obviously, we had a really good season last year, and we made it to the very end. And weren’t able to capitalize on those situations,” said striker Brian White.

Can Whitecaps carry Canadian hopes in Concacaf Champions Cup?

Two Canadian clubs have already been eliminated from the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Canadian Premier League outfits Forge FC and Vancouver FC bowed out of the competition in the first round earlier this month after both teams lost to Mexican opponents. Reigning CPL champions Atlético Ottawa have one foot out the door following a 2-0 home loss to Nashville SC on Tuesday in the first leg of their first-round series.

That pretty much leaves the Vancouver Whitecaps to carry the hopes of Canadian soccer fans.

Here’s what you need to know about the Vancouver Whitecaps in this year’s Concacaf Champions Cup.
