Ole Miss basketball defeats Lady Vols
No. 17 Ole Miss (21-6, 8-4 SEC) defeated No. 21 Tennessee (16-8, 8-4 SEC), 94-81, Tuesday at Sandy and John Black Pavilion in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Rebels led, 44-33, at halftime in a game which was the Lady Vols' second consecutive loss.
Talaysia Cooper totaled 30 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal. She converted 12-of-26 field goal attempts, 2-of-7 three-point attempts and 4-of-5 free throw attempts. Cooper was one of three Tennessee players to score 10-plus points in the contest against the Rebels, which was rescheduled from Jan. 26 due to inclement weather.
Lauren Hurst scored a career-high 16 points for the Lady Vols. She also recorded nine rebounds, two rebounds and two assists, while Alyssa Latham finished with 10 points, two rebounds and one assist for Tennessee, which committed 16 turnovers against Ole Miss. The Rebels committed 15 turnovers.

On a quick turnaround, Lady Vols and Ole Miss battle in critical match up
For Kim Caldwell and the Lady Vols it’s quite the week. It’s kind of a two NCAA tournament weekends wrapped up into one week. Following their two point loss to Texas on Sunday, it was a Monday flight to Oxford for a Tuesday night ranked match up with Ole Miss. Then it’s a Thursday home game with Texas A&M before heading to Oklahoma on Saturday for a Sunday match up with the Sooners.
Three weeks ago, the Lady Vols prepped for Ole Miss before an ice storm cancelled that trip. So the staff and the players have already gone through an Ole Miss scout. Caldwell said the reality however is that both her team and Ole Miss are different than they were three weeks ago and that lone positive if you will with the quick turnaround is that Ole Miss and Texas do some similar things.
