Shooting at a Rhode Island ice rink draws police response
Local and federal authorities are responding after a shooter opened fire at an arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where two high schools were playing a hockey game on Monday afternoon.
The shooting broke out at the Dennis Lynch arena, according Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee. The governor wrote in a post on X that state police are working with local law enforcement.
The shooting took place as hockey teams from Coventry-Johnston co-op and St. Raphael-Providence Country Day-North Providence-North Smithfield co-op were playing, NBC News affiliate WJAR reported.
Agents from the Boston field office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were responding to a shooting in the area, according to the ATF. Providence Police Department also said it was monitoring the situation and dispatched officers to the scene to provide assistance.
