De'Aaron Fox replaces Giannis Antetokounmpo in NBA All-Star Game

MILWAUKEE — Giannis Antetokounmpo won't be playing in the All-Star Game as he recovers from a calf strain, but the two-time MVP will still be making the trip to California for this weekend's festivities.
Antetokounmpo hasn't played since injuring his right calf in a Jan. 23 loss to the Denver Nuggets. The Bucks officially announced Thursday that Antetokounmpo won't play in the All-Star Game on Sunday at Inglewood, California.
San Antonio Spurs guard De'Aaron Fox was selected to the All-Star Game as an injury replacement for Antetokounmpo. Fox will play for the USA Stripes team. Miami's Norman Powell, who has ties to Jamaica, will move over from the USA Stripes team to fill Antetokounmpo's spot on the Team World roster.

The Milwaukee Bucks announced Thursday that Giannis Antetokounmpo won't play in this year's NBA All-Star Game due to the right calf strain that he suffered Jan. 23 and is still recovering from. NBA commissioner Adam Silver has picked San Antonio Spurs guard De'Aaron Fox to replace Antetokounmpo in the midseason exhibition, the league then revealed.
While Antetokounmpo, a 10-time All-Star, was originally selected to play for Team World, Fox, now a two-time All-Star, will join one of the two United States teams for the three-team, USA vs. World round-robin tournament.
Fox will be part of USA Stripes' roster. A spot was freed up there once the NBA moved Miami Heat wing Norman Powell — who has ties to Jamaica — to Team World. Taking the place of Antetokounmpo, Powell will play alongside a bunch of the game's top international stars.

Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo ruled out for NBA All-Star Game
OKLAHOMA CITY − Two days before the NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles, the Milwaukee Bucks ruled out star Giannis Antetokounmpo for the annual exhibition.
Antetokounmpo had been gradually ramping up his rehabilitation of a strained right calf on the court over the last week, but the team formally shut him down for the showcase on Feb. 12.
"He's making strides," Bucks acting head coach Darvin Ham said before the game vs. Oklahoma City later that afternoon. "We're not gonna rush him. Those type of injuries, those soft tissue injuries are nothing to play with. And so, we have a great medical team and we'll take their advice and listen to him, his words as well. And just take it one day at a time. When he's ready, he'll let us know, the medical staff will let us know and we'll be ready to put him back into the fold."
