Blue Jays, Astros swap OFs: Sánchez to Toronto, Loperfido to Houston
The Toronto Blue Jays on Friday acquired outfielder Jesús Sánchez from the Houston Astros in exchange for outfielder Joey Loperfido.
Sánchez, 28, played 134 games between the Miami Marlins and the Houston Astros in 2025, combining to slash .237/.304/.395 with 21 doubles, four triples, 14 home runs, 48 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and a .699 OPS, while recording seven DRS in the outfield. The left-handed hitter from Higuey, Dominican Republic, was originally signed by the Tampa Bay Rays as an international free agent in 2014, making his MLB debut with the Marlins in the 2020 campaign. Over six MLB seasons between the Marlins and Astros, Sánchez slashed .239/.307/.420 with 92 doubles, 13 triples, 73 home runs, 238 RBI, 33 stolen bases, and a .727 OPS over 580 contests.

At the 2024 trade deadline, the Houston Astros sent outfielder Joey Loperfido to the Toronto Blue Jays as part of a three-player package for starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. Just a year and a half later, the Astros found themselves short on outfielders, and couldn't help but notice that Loperfido wasn't getting his fair share of playing time up north.
On Friday, the Astros and Blue Jays completed a straight-up outfield swap. According to the league's official transactions log, Houston sent outfielder Jesús Sánchez to Toronto in exchange for Loperfido.

Astros ‘not done’ after re-acquiring Joey Loperfido in trade of Jesús Sánchez to Jays

In a cost-saving move expected to open the door to more player movement, the Houston Astros on Friday traded outfielder Jesús Sánchez to the Toronto Blue Jays for their former farmhand Joey Loperfido.
“We’re not done,” general manager Dana Brown said, unprompted, when he announced the trade at the Astros’ spring training complex in Florida.
The Athletic previously reported that the Astros have been actively trying to trade Isaac Paredes and Christian Walker.
Loperfido, 26, an outfielder, was drafted by Houston in the seventh round in 2021 and traded to Toronto in July 2024 for Yusei Kikuchi.
