LIST: Weekend cancellations and closures due to severe weather
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Several events on Oahu have been canceled ahead of what’s expected to be a stormy weekend.
The Hawaii News Now First Alert Weather Team has declared Saturday, Sunday and Monday as First Alert Weather Days due to the potential for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and damaging winds.
Bishop Museum has called off its showing of Moana 2, which would have featured various events on their great lawn. The event has been rescheduled to Sunday, Feb. 15: Moana 2 entirely in Olelo Hawaii.
Iolani Palace has called off its Kamaaina Sunday, which would have included live performances and art workshops in celebration of Mahina Olelo Hawaii (Hawaiian Language Month). The next Kamaaina Sunday is scheduled for March 8.

Mayor Richard Bissen signed an emergency proclamation today, Feb. 7, 2026, ahead of severe weather that is predicted by National Weather Service to impact Maui County more than other counties in the state.
The emergency proclamation authorizes the County of Maui to access state and federal assistance programs for potential impacts and temporarily streamlines County procedures so resources, personnel and services can be deployed quickly and efficiently to support emergency response and recovery.
“The County of Maui is preparing for severe weather, including heavy rain, flooding and high winds, which is expected to impact our islands,†Mayor Richard Bissen said. “I would like to encourage everyone to take steps to be prepared.â€
