Apple's Studio Display 2 Rumored to Have Up to 90Hz Refresh Rate Instead of 120Hz

Apple reportedly plans to release a new Studio Display this year, and it has once again been rumored that the monitor's maximum refresh rate will be 90Hz.

In November 2024, an anonymous listener of the Relay FM tech podcast "Upgrade" claimed that Apple was developing 90Hz display technology that could be used for the next Studio Display, as well as future iPad Air and iMac models. A higher refresh rate can make videos and scrolling look smoother to the eye, but 90Hz would stop short of the 120Hz refresh rate that iPhone, iPad, and Mac models with ProMotion support can achieve.

Studio Display refresh looms with three key upgrades

Apple’s long-awaited Studio Display refresh might be happening soon. As noted by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, shipping times for Apple’s Studio Display are slipping to late February and early March in some configurations…

In today’s edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman writes:

While we’re on the subject of Macs, there are a couple of additional developments worth noting. Apple’s entry-level Studio Display is also in short supply, both online and in stores, with new shipments not expected until late February or early March.

Gurman also reiterates his prior reporting that the Studio Display refresh is “slated for a launch in the first half of 2026.”

Apple Studio Display update expected sooner than expected

A long-anticipated refresh of Apple’s Studio Display may be approaching, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

Shipping times for Apple’s Studio Display have recently slipped to late February and early March for some configurations, a sign that a new version could be on the horizon, News.Az reports, citing 9to5mac.com.

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman noted that Apple’s entry-level Studio Display is currently in short supply both online and in physical stores, with new shipments not expected until late February or early March.

Gurman also reiterated his earlier reporting that a refreshed Studio Display is “slated for a launch in the first half of 2026.”
